BSO's Sex Offender Locator allows you to map the location (the registered address) of offenders and/or predators in
Broward County in relation to a specific address or other criteria (near child care centers, public schools, parks and libraries).

To begin, select the type of search you wish to conduct (see Figure 1) by clicking the appropriate button,
then click "Next>>." Instructions for each type of search are available from the list at the right.

Figure 1 (Search Type screen) shows the selection for Street Address. You can search by any of the criteria listed on the menu.
Use this functionto map the location of offenders and/or predators residing near a specific address; for
example, your home, a business, a private school, shopping center, etc.
After selecting "Street Address" from the Search Type screen (see Figure 1), enter the address information
(see Figure 2). Use the "Direction" drop down menu for street prefixes like NE, SW, etc. and the Street
Type drop down to indicate Avenue, Road, Court, etc.
Determine the proximity to the address you entered. You can map 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 2 miles, and
5 miles from the address you entered.
Do not enter apartment or condo unit numbers; the main address is sufficient.
Use the Tab key on your keyboard to move between fields.

When you've entered the requested information, click "Next>>".

Use this function to map the location of offenders and/or predators residing near a licensed child care
facility in Broward County.
After selecting "Child Care Facility" from the search Type screen (see Figure 1), the system will generate a
list of facilities in Broward County (see Figure 3). This may take several moments, please be patient.
Choose the appropriate facility by scrolling through the list and clicking on the facility name. If the facility
you are looking for isn't listed, use the Street Address search function instead. Then select the proximity
to the facility you chose. You can map 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 2 miles, and 5 miles from the facility. Click
"Next>>" to continue.

When your map displays, the Child Care Facility you selected will be in the center of the page with the
location of offenders inside and outside the selected buffer.

Use this function to map the location of offenders and/or predators residing near a Broward County public
school. For private and other schools in Broward County, use the Street Address search function instead.
After selecting "Public School" from the Search Type screen (see Figure 1), the system will generate a list
of the public elementary, junior and senior high schools in Broward County (see Figure 4). This may take
several moments, please be patient.
Choose the appropriate school by scrolling through the list and clicking on the school name. If the school
you are looking for isn't listed, use the Street Address search function instead.
Then select the proximity to the school you chose. You can map 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 2 miles, and 5 miles
from the facility. Click "Next>>" to continue.

After selecting "Park" from the Search Type screen (see Figure 1), the system will generate a list of parks
in Broward County (see Figure 5). This may take several moments, please be patient.
Choose the appropriate park by scrolling through the list and clicking on the park name. If the park you are
looking for isn't listed, use the Street Address search function instead.
Then select the proximity to the park you chose. You can map 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 2 miles, and 5 miles
from the park. Click "Next>>" to continue.

Use this function to map the location of offenders and/or predators residing near a Broward County
library.
After selecting "Library" from the Search Type screen (see Figure 1), the system will generate a list of the
libraries in Broward County (see Figure 6). This may take several moments, please be patient.
Choose the appropriate library by scrolling through the list and clicking on the library name. If the library
you are looking for isn't listed, use the Street Address search function instead.
Then select the proximity to the library you chose. You can map 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 2 miles, and 5 miles
from the library. Click "Next>>" to continue.

Maps will display with symbols overlaid to indicate predators and offenders, and the locations of schools,
libraries, parks and/or other searc criteria. Refer to the legend for an explanation of each symbol.
The registered locations (residences) of predators are indicated by a red circle and an orange circle for
offenders.

By clicking the "Show Aerials" box, photographic images of the area you're searching will be substituted for the
line drawings which display by default. The photographic images my help you better visualize the area you've
searched.
Once the map has generated, you can click on any of the red or orange circles to access the name, address and photo
of the offender/predator registered at that location. You can also see a list of all offenders/predators within the search
area by clicking on the "Names/Addresses" tab at the top of the map. Information on the offenders/predators is from the
Florida Department of Law Enforcement website.

Clicking on either the zoom-in icon (plus sign "+") or zoom-out icon (minus sign "--") will re-draw the map
in a closer or more distant view -- when you click on the tool and then click on the map. Or, you may simply
click on the zoom bar at the bottom of the map. Please be patient. It will take a few moments to load
the new view of the map.
Panning
ToolClick on this icon and then drag your mouse on the map to re-center the map, or view more data that
isn't visible. For example, moving your mouse to the bottom left corner will cause the map to display
more data toward the northeast.
E-mail
ToolClick on this icon to launch an e-mail with the link to this map already inserted into the message area.
You can add your own messages and send the e-mail to whomever you wish.
Print
ToolClicking on this icon generates a printer-friendly version of the map and displays the print options
dialogue box.
